Muay Thai Kickboxing and Kung Fun San Soo

Mr. James Parker has studied multiple styles of martial arts since the age of six, including Shotokan Karate, Escrima, Pencek Silat, and muay Thai. He moved to street combative or RMA style martial arts in his twenties while working as a club security guard and guard supervisor. He found Kung Fu San Soo to be one of the best styles available for complete defense and has spent the last eight years training in it. Following in the footsteps of another San Soo practitioner that moved to sports combatives, James returned to muay Thai and studied under Kathy Long. He has since taught a hybrid form of muay Thai/striking focused on sport mma as well as self defense. He has been taught techniques in mma, muay Thai, and street combatives by some of the best fighters and trainers in the world of martial arts and would be just as happy talking “shop” as he is training.

Class Bio:

Muay Thai: This is not the traditional style taught at most Thai gyms. Although it does have traditional elements, the traditional style has been modified to be made applicable to mixed martial arts competition and street level combatives. It is still the art of eight limbs however, utilizing not only the hands and feet, but the knees and elbows to deliver hard and fast strikes. This class is a combination exercise and technique class.

Kung Fu San Soo: Literally means free fighting. This is a class that is all about street defense and combat. It is considered by many to be a complete and aggressive style, focusing not just on striking, but throwing, joint manipulation, and body strengthening through traditional kung fu application. This class focuses on practical application of technique as well as basic forms memorization.

Congratulations to Ryan on his Silver Medal win!
